Bombay woman out shopping dies after building plaster collapses on her
A 39-year-old woman, who was shopping with members of her family, died after a plaster of a slab from a building in Dadar (west) collapsed on her and her nephew.
The nephew suffered serious head injuries and is being treated in a hospital. His condition is declared stable as on Thursday. An accidental death case has been registered at Dadar Police Station and an investigation is underway to find out who caused the negligent negligence.
The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday in front of the Woodside building on Gokhale Road. The late Amruta Sawant had gone to Dadar market to shop with her sister Sonali and her nephew Aradhya (12).
They were standing under the building when the plaster of a slab from the building collapsed on them.
Sawant and Aradhya were rushed to KEM Hospital in Dadar (East), where Sawant was pronounced dead on arrival. Aradhya was then transferred to Lilawati Hospital.
Sawant worked as a lab technician and has an underage son. The investigating officer, Inspector Dnyaneshwar Argade, said: “The plaster of the slab of the security wall of the parking area on the second floor of the building collapsed on them. We are investigating what negligence led to the incident.
He added that the building is around 8-10 years old.
“It was not undergoing any repair work and a probe is underway to find out how the plaster of the slab suddenly collapsed,” Argade said.
